The Build Process

Twelve Stages.
One Commission.

Every Origin build follows the same uncompromising sequence. Nothing is skipped, nothing is rushed. From first conversation to a 400-kilometre shakedown test — this is how it works.

01The Conversation

The commission begins with a conversation. We learn your intended use — expedition, urban, coastal, dunes — and establish the parameters that will shape every decision that follows. No forms. A phone call or an email exchange that tells us what the build needs to be.

02The Vision

We present a curated direction: silhouette, engine specification, colour, suspension profile and interior approach. Not a menu — a considered proposal. You feed back, we refine. The vision is locked in before we touch a chassis.

03The Curation

We source the donor platform from our network of European and African military surplus operators, private collectors and first-right-of-refusal fleet relationships. Frame integrity is inspected before a build slot is allocated. We do not build from compromised platforms.

04The Strip

The vehicle is completely disassembled — body-off, every component catalogued and assessed. What is serviceable is retained. What is not is replaced. The shell is stripped to bare metal. This stage takes longer than most restorers allow. We allow for it.

05The Treatment

The bare chassis and body panels are treated, rust-proofed, seam-sealed and primed. Structural repairs are carried out at this stage. Every weld is inspected before the build progresses. There is no going back once paint begins.

06The Paint

Applied in a temperature-controlled spray environment. Standard colours require two-stage application. Bespoke finishes require additional stages. The vehicle does not leave the paint facility until the surface is correct. Photographs are sent to the client before clearcoat.

07The Mechanical Rebuild

The engine is rebuilt to zero hours on the bench before fitment. Forged internals, uprated injectors, turbo assembly (where specified) and full rotating assembly balances are completed as a standalone exercise. The engine is run and tuned off-vehicle before it goes in.

08The Milestones

Throughout the build the Origin team sends personal updates — photographs, notes and observations at each significant stage. These are not automated reports. They are detailed, considered documentation. You are never in the dark.

09The Interior

Interior trim is completed by hand, using full-grain hide from our Western Cape supplier. Bespoke commissions are pre-agreed with physical swatches. The cabin is fitted after mechanical completion — never before. Dust and overspray have no place in a finished interior.

10The Assembly

The vehicle is reassembled in full. All ancillaries — lighting, electrical, accessories — are fitted and tested individually before the vehicle is brought to running condition. Torque settings are documented. Nothing is approximated.

11The Final Mile

Every Origin commission is driven a minimum of 400 kilometres before delivery. Road surfaces are chosen to simulate the intended use profile. Urban builds are driven in traffic. Expedition builds see gravel. The shakedown is not a formality — it is the final quality gate.

12The Delivery

The vehicle is delivered to you with a complete build dossier — every photograph, every specification, every service record from the rebuild. For international commissions, enclosed freight is coordinated through a specialist network. The dossier travels with the vehicle.
